Evolution & History of School
St. Joseph's Convent School, was established in 1944. The need for a girls’ school had been felt. Dr.Feuga Bishop of Mysore invited the sisters of St. Teresa’s and Mother Mary accepting the invitation sent the first batch of sisters for the purpose. They were put up in a rented house Which consisted of a single hall, very inconvenient in every way. The sisters put up with the difficulties and continued their mission.
St. Joseph’s convent , Mandya was opened on 10th May 1944. The school which started with 12 students steadily continued to increase in numbers on the roll.
With the kind help of the local Municipality, they were able to secure the site on which the present school building stands. Generous help was received from the Government of Mysore, the Mysore sugar Company and the enthusiastic public, besides Dr. R. Feuga, Bishop of Mysore, Dr. T.C. Rajan, Minister of education, Mr. R. Kasthuri Raj Chetty, the D.P.I and the Mandya Dt. Board.
The High School was started first with 6 students , In 1945, the Kannada Medium primary School was started.
The first batch of students appeared for the S.S.L.C examination in 1947 and secured cent percent Result. This created confidence in the people and the strength of the school grew steadily. Good Bishop Rene Feuga, of sacred memory, equipped the school out of diocesan funds. Much credit for the impetus given to this work goes to Mother Rita, the first Superior, and to Sr. Berchmans, the first Headmistress.
